Pretty Lights and his partner chose a home birth for their first child, who was born in late August.
Derek Vincent Smith, the iconic electronic music artist who produces and performs as Pretty Lights, and his partner Meghan Zank have welcomed their first child, a son named Ayahn.
The couple took to Instagram on Saturday to announce the birth with a collaborative post, noting that the child was born at home in late August. Back in June, Smith had announced he was expecting a son at the inaugural Yahn Dawn at Meadow Creek, his own multi-day camping festival in Buena Vista, Colorado.
“We are so happy to introduce our little guy to the big world,” they wrote. “Our hearts are overflowing.”
Smith, 43, founded Pretty Lights in 2006 and became a pioneering figure in electronic music, known for blending hip-hop samples with glitchy, soulful productions. His influential work helped define the live electronic music scene of the 2010s.
Zank has also long operated as a creative manager for Pretty Lights. This time last year, she played a pivotal role in the development of “Creatives For WNC Relief,” a massive online auction supporting victims of Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina.
In today’s reveal, the couple expressed gratitude to their birth team, writing that “navigating pregnancy, birth, and postpartum” with their support “has been such a blessing.” You can check out the post below.
