Gunna Named Team Captain For NFL Flag Football Game In London

Gunna is stepping onto the football field in a whole new way. The Atlanta rapper has been tapped as one of the captains for the NFL’s Flag Football Game on YouTube: London Edition. The special event is set for October 11th at Copper Box Arena, where teams of athletes, entertainers, and creators will go head-to-head in a 7-on-7 matchup.

The timing of the game adds to a packed football weekend in the U.K. The following day, the New York Jets will meet the Denver Broncos at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Fans who want to catch the action early can tune in live on YouTube at 7 p.m. BST (2 p.m. ET).

For Gunna, the opportunity to lead a squad is one he is embracing. “I’m ready to bring my energy to the field and lead my team,” he said in a statement. “It’s great to team up with the NFL and YouTube on something that brings people together.” Mexican flag football star Diana Flores will serve as quarterback for his team. Gunna’s roster also features Khaby Lame, Deestroying, Speedy Morman, Jamie Laing, Sam Thompson, Nella Rose, and NFL legend Chad Ochocinco.

Across the field, British rapper Aitch has been given the captain’s role. He will be supported by former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is expected to take on passing duties. Joining them are boxer Tommy Fury, singer Mabel, Phoebe Schecter, Ashlea Klam, Jay Cinco, Adam W, and SV2. Aitch shared his excitement for the matchup, saying, “When the NFL asked me to be a captain, I was gassed. Seeing how American football has blown up in the U.K. has been crazy, and now I get to play on the field with some of the best athletes, creators and entertainers around the world.”

Tickets for the event are available on Ticketmaster U.K. starting under €15.
