
Judge Frank Caprio, who became a viral sensation for his compassionate rulings on Caught in Providence, has sadly passed away at the age of 88.
The news was announced Wednesday (August 20) on his official Instagram page, which revealed that he died following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
“Beloved for his compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, Judge Caprio touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond. His warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him,” the statement read.

Frank Caprio was first appointed as a judge in 1985 and became widely known through Caught in Providence, the courtroom series that aired from 2018 to 2020 and earned multiple Daytime Emmy Award nominations. He officially retired from the bench in 2023.
Clips of his empathetic rulings, often dismissing traffic tickets when defendants shared personal hardships, made him a viral figure across social media, where he was celebrated for his kindness and humanity.
Judge Caprio is survived by his wife, Joyce, their five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, per TMZ.
