“After almost a decade, I have decided to give myself a second chance,” the Polish DJ and producer wrote on social media.
Polish DJ Tom Swoon, whose real name is Dorian Tomasiak, has announced his return to music production after serving time in prison for a fatal drunk driving accident that ended one life and derailed his promising electronic music career nearly a decade ago.
In December 2017, Tomasiak was driving under the influence on an expressway in the city of Goleniów when he caused a fatal car accident that killed one person and injured another. He was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter charges in 2018, and ordered to pay 280,000 zlotys (roughly $77,000 USD) to the victim’s family, according to Polish news outlet Onet.
Tomasiak at the time had been signed to the iconic Dutch electronic music label Spinnin’ Records, with whom he released primarily progressive house and big room tracks under his Tom Swoon alias. Prior to the incident, his music received live DJ support from industry heavyweights like Tiësto, Hardwell and Nicky Romero, among many others. He also performed at a number of the world’s top EDM festivals, including Ultra and Tomorrowland.
While awaiting sentencing in June 2018, Tomasiak announced the end of the Tom Swoon project in a formal statement from prison. Now 32, the DJ, who appears to have changed his name to Dorian Numan, is making music again. The news was first reported by our friends at We Rave You.
“After almost a decade, I have decided to give myself a second chance,” he wrote on Instagram. “A chance to once again share the music with the world and be able to spell out everything that has been in my system for all these years, using the only language I am capable to do it with.”
“I am a completely different person now, therefore I’ll be starting this completely from a scratch,” he continued. “That’s the only way I see it happening. I have no idea whether I’ll stick to releasing whatever I do on SoundCloud for free, or if it will eventually land on some labels.. let’s do one step at a time, one day at a time. And wherever we’ll be in a while from now – I hope it’ll bring some light.”
